The AO3400 is a specific model of a low-voltage N-channel MOSFET (Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor). As an N-channel enhancement mode MOSFET, it requires a positive voltage on the gate terminal relative to the source terminal to turn it on, allowing current flow between the drain and source terminals. In its default state (with no gate voltage applied), the MOSFET remains turned off.
